Hall finished first at the UK's Strongest Man 2011 competition in Belfast. Hall's win was helped by his outstanding performance in the "Viking Hold," hanging on to 20kg axes for one minute and 18 seconds. A self-described "big lad at 6 ft 3" and 230 pounds, he tore tendons in a forearm during the competition. This qualified him for a spot at 2011 World's Strongest Man, but he didn't end up going.
Hall became the first choice for Giants Live Melbourne 2012 when the organizers needed a replacement for Jono MacFarlane of New Zealand. He placed 4th in his first taste of international competition. Later, Hall competed at Europe's Strongest Man 2012, an event of Giants Live. He faced six finalists from World's Strongest Man 2011, including two-time World's Strongest Man Žydrūnas Savickas, where he finished 8th place.

At age 19, the future world champion strongman made an important realization: he wasn't tall enough to become a successful bodybuilder. However, he came to find that he was stronger than most people, and he started training for Strongman.
That realization turned out to be the right decision because this new talent allowed him to devote his energy to something he could finally use. His psych meds were no longer necessary, either.

Hall became a father at 21 and his daughter, Layla, is partly the reason he wanted to win the World's Strongest Man competition. When he was 23, he won the UK's Strongest Man, which made him the youngest person to ever win the competition.
